A student-centered teaching mode of “cultivating root, spreading leaf, diffusing green”: A case study of forage genetic breeding course of Lanzhou University

Abstract
According to the connotation of new agricultural science, the overall goal of cultivating innovative, high-quality and international grass talents and the “two pain points” in the course characteristics and teaching, the teaching team of forage genetic breeding puted forward a student-centered teaching mode of “cultivating root, spreading leaf, diffusing green”. We constructed international teaching team, “classroom + laboratory + practice base” collaborative practice education class, and provided nutritious teaching contents to help students lay a solid foundation. We provided research-based teaching, and integrated Chinese and foreign teaching resources to enhance students’ practical skills and english ability. We used information technology, innovated teaching and learning methods, and optimized evaluation system to improve teaching quality. Our final teaching objective is the growth and development of students. Our curriculum innovation and reform can provide experiences and references for related majors in other agricultural colleges and universities in China.
