Abstract
Animal Breeding is one of the main professional basic courses of Animal Science within agricultural and forestry colleges and universities. In the omics era, there has been extensive development in omics technology, represented by genomics, alongside corresponding technologies, and methods; consequently, the research field of animal breeding is also continuously changing, thereby increasing and furthering corresponding research content. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the teaching focus of animal breeding courses by increasing and compressing the corresponding teaching content according to the new directions and characteristics in the principles and technology of animal breeding; by adjusting this, a new Animal Breeding teaching scheme can be formed, which aligns with the advancements of the omics era. Taking the undergraduate teaching from Animal Breeding in the Animal Science major in colleges and universities, such as Huazhong Agricultural University and Gansu Agricultural University, this paper utilizes and discusses four aspects: comparative analysis of teaching materials, adjustment of teaching content, improvement of teaching methods, and evaluation of the effect of teaching reform. This was conducted in order to provide reference for the teaching of Animal Breeding within the Animal Science undergraduate major in Lanzhou University and to further expand the knowledge of students by strengthening their knowledge on the theoretical basis of animal breeding; by doing this, the corresponding aim was to encourage the pursuit of animal breeding as a career to meet the needs and development requirements of the country.
