Abstract
Eight alfalfa cultivars from different sources were used to study the characteristics of selfcompatibility and pollination approaches. The results showed that the selfcompatibility of alfalfa among the cultivars was different, and the selfcompatibility indexes of all materials were ranged from 0 to 1.39. In which, the selfcompatibility index of 2 cultivars were over 1.00, 5 cultivars was from 1.00 to 0, and 1 cultivar was 0. The phenomenon of gradual death in batches was found in the S1 growth course, and the final survival rate was only 34.80% and 32.30%. the seed rate of selfcousins is the highest in 4 selfpollinations, so the selfpollination of selfcousins was appropriate to popularize and apply in alfalfa selfpollinate.
