Progress situation on research and application of alfalfa in animal diet

Abstract
Alfalfa products, with the features of high protein and low digestible energy feed (high crude fiber content), could be added in animal diet by appropriate proportion. And it could significantly improve the animal production performance and the quality of meat or egg. Alfalfa could also partly replace the concentrates of cattle, and it could increase the milk fat percentage. However, the application of alfalfa products in beef cattle feeding is very poor, and only few products except alfalfa meal is in use, so the alfalfa industry is limited in some degree. So, the research work for new and low cost processing procedures should be strengthened.
