Effect of enclosure on restoration of degraded grassland

To improve degraded grassland, a fenced experiment from 2004 to 2006 was conducted in southern edge of Tengger Desert in Gulang County. The results showed that the plant height, coverage, abundance, crown width of vegetation, the total biomass aboveground and yield of edible forage were significantly improved. The vegetation structure also changed with a increasing sedge and grass, but decreasing weeds. The regional ecological environment was improved and the ability of sandfixing from vegetation was enhanced. The enclosure was significant on restoration of degraded grassland.
