Effect of different irrigation amounts on alfalfa yield

The fresh yield of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) and economic efficiency under different irrigation amounts were studied for exploring the watersaving and high yield irrigation patterns in Jingtai. The result indicated that the proper soil moisture within 20 to 40 cm in the growth period was 30% and the yield increased along with the increasing of irrigation amount, however, while the total irrigation amount reached 5 400 m3/hm2, the effect was not significant. The economic efficiency reached the highest while the total irrigation amount was around 5 400 m3/hm2.
